Clive Lewis

Clive Lewis is one of the world's leading experts in Mind Mapping, speed reading, creative thinking and understanding what motivates and engages people in the workplace.

He is also the Managing Director and co-founder of Illumine Training.

Clive has unparalleled experience of delivering keynote speeches and practical breakout sessions to diverse groups and organisations throughout the public and private sectors in the UK. He has developed a reputation for delivering entertaining and inspiring keynote speeches and presentations. Some recent engagements have included:

  • A Mind Mapping and Problem Solving Keynote for The Bank of America (delivered over 3 continents through live audience and video conferencing).
  • Creativity for the Managers Conference at Royal Bank of Scotland Assistance.

Drawing on his strong business background (along with a business degree and Accounting qualification he has worked to FD level in the IT industry, and as Senior Management Consultant) Clive creates customised interactive experiences to ensure meaningful dialogue among attendees. Sessions can be based around key themes, current issues or shared working experiences. His business understanding is reinforced with his regular training and coaching of a range of clients in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He works at all levels within organisations and his experience of and enthusiasm for his subjects shines through in all of his speaking opportunities.

Clive is also a highly experienced executive coach providing one to one coaching to senior business professionals.

Clive's profile is such that he is frequently asked to comment in the media.  He has been interviewed for news programmes on BBC Radio 2, the World Service, Channel Five and Five Live as well as most of the major national newspapers. In addition he has written many articles about managing information overload and creative thinking.  Most recently these include The Guardian, Training Journal, The Manager, Personnel Today and Customer Management.

Clive was elected a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in 1992 and is a member of the Institute of Directors. Prior to co-founding Illumine he spent eight years as a Senior Management Consultant with Coopers & Lybrand. As a Consultant he led many assignments in diverse industries and has worked in many different countries.

Mind Mapping for Business:

Clive is the world's most experienced and leading exponent of using Mind Mapping techniques to enhance business. He was first introduced to Mind Maps in 1978 and has used them ever since in a wide ranging and successful career. He has been training others in how to use Mind Maps in business since 1996 and has written numerous articles on the subject as well as founding and running the world's most successful Mind Mapping training company.

He is licensed by the Buzan organisation (Tony Buzan is the originator of Mind Mapping) to conduct training in the full range of mental literacy programmes and in 2005 Illumine Training was appointed as the preferred corporate partner of the Buzan organisation.

While some so-called gurus rely on their reputation as authors, Clive focuses on running sessions that demystify Mind Mapping and make it a practical, day to day tool that gives people a competitive edge in the workplace. These sessions are enjoyable, practical and inspiring.

Passion at Work - a keynote on new research and a unique model:

Raise employee engagement and motivation at work with this uniquely effective approach to understanding what determines personal motivation.

Clive has worked directly with the author of the book "PassionWorks!™ - Your guide to passion in the modern workplace" to develop an inspiring keynote that shares a unique model of how passion or engagement at work really works. Passion at work is so much more than ‘liking your job' or ‘caring about what you do'. It is a state that we can all achieve - and help others to achieve too. Practical, thought-provoking  and action focused, this session will open your eyes to how to engage yourself and your people at work - key components in the war for talent, helping with retention, morale and motivation in tough times.

The PassionWorks!™ book and programme were developed through interviewing 200 leaders and peers who were identified as passionate about their work. These participants were taken from a wide variety of industries around the world and from differing levels. The purpose of the research was to demystify what we identify as passion.

The research resulted in a practical model that enhances an individual's understanding of the components of creating passion at work, how it can be maximised to create an optimal working environment for and by individuals, teams and leaders. The applied practice, including the significant benefits of ‘passionate work' and the realities of when it is not present, result in the individual, team or leaders ability to:

  • Identify why the working experience feels the way it does
  • Create manageable conditions that give rise to passion at work within the current task, job and career

Clive Lewis co-authored the book, The Extraordinary Reader, based on his unique understanding of the speed reading process gained by training thousands of people in speed reading. In this practical session, Clive takes the audience through the key steps to faster reading, but even more importantly presents his process for more effective reading, INSEAK® - the Intelligent Strategy for the Effective Acquisition of Knowledge. This session, great for smaller groups of up to 50, is packed with practical ideas that will help people to be able to read faster, understand better and remember more.
